DEXTER Cattle

Dexter Cattle Australia (DCAI) Herd Book no. 11188

CALLISTEMON PARK STUD have been breeding Dexter Cattle since the 1990s with the aim of producing true dual purpose cattle which are hardy and people friendly. Our small herd is a secondary enterprise and complimentary to our Organic Hay production.

We sell Dexter Beef as well as hand milked house cows and young stock.
While milking our cattle provides milk for the household it also allows us to maintain the true dual purpose characterstics within our herd.
Our herd status in regard to Chrondrodysplasia and PHA is known; all stock presently tested free or free by inheritance.

Although our breeding program started with two, grade two heifers we now have mostly purebred stock and breed our own bulls. A combination of natural service and AI (artificial insemination) is used to maintain genetic diversity within our herd with genetics from England, Ireland, Denmark, Canada and America, as well as Australia.

Our herd consists of both polled and horned purebreds although most of our horned cattle are dehorned while still very young (less stress while suckling from mum).

The cattle are certified organic – NASAA. Certification no. 2634 Domestic.

In recent years we have started to learn about cheese making and have made ricotta from our housecow’s milk. We hope to learn more as time allows. Stud stock and milking cows periodically available. Commercial cattle occasionally available.

If you would like to know more about our herd, please feel free to contact us – enquiries welcome.

Additional information: Agistment may be charged if cattle are required to be kept for lengthy periods before collection.
